Your records. Clear choices.
Retention and deletion guide · Updated October 27, 2026. Requesting deletion starts an owner review; it does not instantly erase an account.
Immediate controls
Account settings let you export your records, make your profile private and withdraw community reviews. A private profile leaves the public directory. A withdrawn review leaves public lists and the community average. Neither action deletes the underlying record. Staff takes moved from an owner review are managed separately in the staff workspace.
Request account deletion
Open Contact & feedback and select Account deletion while signed into the account you want removed. State whether you want the entire account removed or specific information deleted. Do not send passwords, identity documents or verification codes. The owner uses the trusted signed-in account to scope the request, may ask for clarification in your private inbox, and records what was completed or retained.
What must be handled
Account deletion involves the app’s profile, saved library, reviews, votes, notifications, submissions and private requests. Published editorial or accepted catalogue material may need separate handling because it can contain shared factual records or staff work. The owner must review attribution and personal information rather than silently deleting unrelated community or editorial records. Deleting app data does not automatically delete a ChatGPT account. An email-auth identity and its sessions must be handled separately in Supabase.
How long records remain
Active profiles, reviews, libraries and contribution history are retained to provide the account’s features. Withdrawing content changes its public visibility but retains the record until a deletion request is processed. Support, rights and moderation records may be retained while the matter is open or a documented security, legal or dispute need remains. The owner reviews retained personal information when closing a request; there is no automatic timed purge in this beta.
Backups and exceptions
Removing live records is different from removing earlier backups or provider logs. Backup recovery and a verified purge schedule are still launch work; we do not claim that every backup disappears immediately. Any necessary exception or unfinished provider step should be explained in the request reply. Copies made independently by other visitors, search engines or linked services may need requests to those services.
Completion and access problems
Check your private request history for the outcome and any remaining steps. The owner should not mark a deletion request resolved just because it was received. If you cannot access the account, use the sign-in provider’s recovery flow first. Review times vary during beta; this does not replace any applicable legal rights or deadlines.
